We are thrilled to share our latest adventure with you – the launch of the "I Inherit What You Lost" Project.
This project is our ongoing exploration of the heritage that reminded us of challenging times in the 20th century in Eastern Europe, Eastern Partnership countries and Central Asia. We're inviting you to join us on this exciting journey where, together with talented artists from Eastern Partnership countries and Central Asia, we'll uncover the hidden gems of "dissonant heritage" within our cities.
In our project, dissonant heritage encompasses both tangible and intangible remnants of challenging times in the 20th century. Consider buildings, monuments, ruins, and urban features linked to wars, colonisation, persecution, and propaganda. Our mission is to find artistic solutions that bring out the untapped potential of these artefacts.
We strongly believe that dissonant heritage represents the ongoing dialogue between different social groups, each with their own interpretation of the past. This can sometimes lead to conflicts over history, justice, ethics, and aesthetics. But here's the exciting part – these objects of dissonant heritage have the potential to foster democracy, celebrate diversity, and help people heal from past traumas.
What's Inside "I Inherit What You Lost"?
Artistic Laboratory in Szczecin: At the core of our project is a 3-day Artistic Laboratory in Szczecin, Poland, set for the end of March 2024. We'll bring together activists, researchers, opinion leaders, and 10-12 artists from Eastern Partnership countries and Central Asia, who will be selected through an open call.
Virtual Lab (January-February 2024): Ahead of the Artistic Laboratory, we're hosting a Virtual Lab. This virtual space will see four engaging webinars featuring experts delving into research methodologies, fact-checking, and inspiring case studies of successful artistic projects. Following these webinars, selected Artists, together with experts and curators, will collaborate in small groups to generate concepts and sketches for their future artworks, which may include a variety of art forms, graphics, videos, photos, interventions, and more.
Exhibition: What's an art project without an exhibition? Participating Artists will finalise and present their ideas during the 3-day Artistic Laboratory in Szczecin. The artworks will shine in the urban space in Szczecin and will be destined to grace other European cities in the future.
This project isn't just about art; it's about collaboration, creativity, and celebrating the rich tapestry of our shared heritage. We're looking forward to this incredible journey, and we'll keep you updated every step of the way.
